In 2015, WNY's Furtastic Adopt-A-Thon began with a simple belief: that animal shelters, rescue organizations, businesses, and the community could save more lives by working together than they ever could alone. What started as a series of collaborative pet adoption events grew into one of Western New York’s most successful lifesaving initiatives, bringing together dozens of rescue and shelter partners, thousands of attendees, and countless volunteers to help hundreds of homeless pets find loving homes.

Along the way, WNY's Furtastic Adopt-A-Thon proved that collaboration works. Beyond adoptions, it strengthened relationships between organizations, inspired new partnerships, and demonstrated the power of a community united around a shared mission.

That success led to a bigger vision. Today, WNY’s Furtastic Adopt-A-Thon has evolved into Rescued By Buffalo—a community-powered movement dedicated to helping local shelters and rescues save more homeless dogs and cats through creative partnerships, innovative campaigns, and programs that inspire adoption, fostering, volunteering, and giving.   While the name has changed, the mission remains the same: bringing everyone in Buffalo together to create more opportunities for homeless pets to find the loving homes they deserve.
